A Short History of Fear Factory in Video Game Soundtracks

A Short History of Fear Factory in Video Games

Fear Factory's particular brand of techno-industrial nu-metal makes them absolutely perfect for video game soundtracks, so it comes as no surprise that they were featured in a verifiable shit-ton (scientific term) of video game soundtracks in the late 90's early 2000's. This is a short history of the video game soundtracks Fear Factory was featured in.

1997 -

The first game to feature them was the computer game Carmageddon. It featured instrumental versions of three tracks off the masterpiece 1995 album Demanufacture, "Demanufacture" "Zero Signal" and "Body Hammer."

I absolutely love these instrumentals, it really shows what great musicians Dino Cazeres, Christian Olde Wolbers, and drummer Raymond Herrera are!

1998 -

In 1998, NFL Xtreme for Sony Playstation featured "Body Hammer."

Test Drive Off-Road 2 (Test Drive 4X4), also for the Playstation, featured "Shock" from the newly released album Obsolete.

Test Drive 5 featured two tracks from the remix album "Remanufacture." They were "21st Century Jesus" (a remix of "Pisschrist") and "Genetic Blueprint" (a remix of "New Breed" by Junkie XL.)

1999 -

Test Drive 6 showcased their cover of "Cars" which also guest starred Gary Numan himself. The song also appeared on MTV Sports: Snowboarding.

Demolition Racer featured six songs, remixes of "Descent" and "Edgecrusher", along with new songs "Full Metal Contact" and "Machine Debaser", in addition to a demo of "(Memory Imprints) Never End" titled "Will This Never End", all of which are on the compilation album "Hatefiles" (2003.)

2000 -

F1 Championship Season 2000 featured "Burn." A single released in 1997. It is a remix of "Flashpoint" by Junkie XL

Cool Boarders 2001 featured "Burn (Flashpoint Remix)" again, "Edgecrusher", "Genetic Blueprint (New Breed Remix)" and "Faithless Zero (Zero Signal Remix.)"

2001 -

Test Drive: Off-road Open Wide featured Digimortal's "Acres of Skin."

2002 -

Rallisport Challenge featured "Cyberdyne."

2003 -

NFL Gameday 2004 featured a remix of "Archetype."

This version if freakin' awesome! I love the remixes that Fear Factory always did, I hate so much that they quit doing them. Remanufacture and Hatefiles are two of my favorite albums to listen to. Archetype just begs for a remix album.

2005 -

Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six: Lockdown featured "Lockdown."

Not available on any album, "Lockdown" was recorded during Transgression and is better than more than half the album, definitely should have been on it. But though it is a cool song, it still isn't there best.

Infected had "Demanufacture."

2006 -

Final Fight: Streetwise for the Playstation 2 featured "Archetype" and "Moment of Impact."

NFL Street 3 (PS2) featured a remix of Megadeth's "Symphony of Destruction" entitled "Megadeth: Symphony of Destruction (Fear Factory Remix.)"

As a Megadeth fan who counts the original as one of the best songs the band ever did, this is pretty damn cool. I would honestly like to hear more remixes of Megadeth.

2012 -

Sleeping Dogs (Xbox 360 and PS3) featured "Edgecrusher."

20XX -

Sadly, despite continuing to put out great music, Fear Factory aren't really featured in soundtracks much anymore, which is a damn shame if you ask me!

A few songs that I would like to hear on soundtracks are: "Supernova" and "540,000° Fahrenheit" from 2005's Transgression.

"Industrial Discipline" and the bonus track "Crashtest (re-recording)" from 2010's Mechanize.

Plus "Anodized", "Soul Hacker", and "Protomech" from 2015's Genexus.
